(The Nationalist, December 2004)
- Santa lives at the North Pole; Jesus is everywhere.
- Santa rides in a sleigh; Jesus doesn’t need to come because he is already with us.
- Santa comes just once a year; Jesus never leaves us.
- Santa fills our stockings with goodies; Jesus meets our real needs.
- Santa comes down the chimney uninvited; Jesus stands at the door and knocks, entering only when invited.
- You have to wait in line to see Santa; Jesus is as close as the mention of his name.
- Santa lets you sit in his lap; Jesus lets you rest in his arms.
- Santa has to ask you your name; Jesus knew your name before you did.
- Santa has to ask your address: Jesus knows your past, present and future.
- Santa has a fat tummy, full of good food; Jesus has a heart full of love.
- Santa offers ‘Ho, ho, ho!’ Jesus offers health, happiness and holiness.
- Santa says, ‘You’d better not cry!’ Jesus says, ‘Cast all your cares upon me!’
- Santa’s helpers make toys; Jesus makes new life, mends broken hearts and homes.
- Santa may make you chuckle; Jesus gives joy that lasts.
- Santa puts gifts under the tree; Jesus became our gift and died on a tree.
Santa and Jesus? – there really is no comparison. Jesus is the reason for the season.
I hope that you and yours have a happy Christmas – Christ’s Mass.
